Elyse Walker has built a reputation as one of fashion’s most powerful retailers. Celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2024, elysewalker has six elysewalker stores, one towne by elysewalker store, and elysewalker.com, and remains a sought-after purveyors of premium curated apparel, jewelry, and accessories.
Throughout her childhood, Ms. Walker worked on the sales floor of her mother’s shoe store Capretto. She then studied applied mathematics at Columbia University with visions of working on Wall Street. While attending Columbia, Ms. Walker’s mother passed away from an aggressive form of ovarian cancer. Shortly thereafter, she inherited the family shoe business, and her career in fashion began.
After relocating from New York to Pacific Palisades in 1996, Ms. Walker realized the community was missing a great clothing store. She opened her eponymous store in 1999, and in the 25 years since opening, that first 900 square foot store quadrupled in size to encompass nearly an entire block. She continued the company’s growth in California followed by New York. During the 2025 Palisades fires, the elysewalker Palisades flagship was destroyed, and towne by elysewalker was closed. Both stores plan to reopen in Palisades Village in 2026.
Ms. Walker’s diverse background in fashion and mathematics created a unique and powerful formula that helped her make a shopping experience that is unrivaled in the world of retail. The power of the brand stems from the way Ms. Walker and her team create, establish, and maintain relationships with their clients, which enable them to build wardrobes that suit their personalities and lifestyles.
