Jeff Gennette was elected Chief Executive Officer of Macy’s Inc. in March 2017 and assumed the role of Chairman in February 2018. His most recent roles within the company were President and Chief Merchandising Officer.
 
Mr. Gennette has had a long career at Macy’s in regions across the country. In 1983, he started as an executive trainee at Macy’s West in San Francisco, and from there held positions of increasing responsibility, including Vice President and Division Merchandise Manager for Men’s Collections and Senior Vice President and General Merchandise Manager for Men’s and Children’s. He eventually moved to Macy’s Central in Atlanta to be Executive Vice President and Director of Stores, and then served as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Macy’s Northwest in Seattle and Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Macy’s West in San Francisco. During his career, he also held roles as Store Manager for FAO Schwarz and Director of Stores for Broadway Stores Inc.
 
Mr. Gennette serves on the board and executive committee for the Partnership for New York City. He is a member of the National Retail Federation board and executive committee, Chairman of the NRF Foundation board, and a member of the NRF finance committee. Mr. Gennette also serves on the CEO Action for Diversity & Inclusion task force and the governing committee for racial equity. 
 
He is a graduate of Stanford University.
